FAMILY

Since 1980 Family Life Theatre has created THEATRE which explores LIFE and its challenges with or sometimes without the support of FAMILY in all its variations. We believe that theatre can do more than entertain. It has the power to transform lives and set people on a journey of personal and social exploration.

LIFE

Our goal is to engage our audiences in critical thinking which is often muted when our thinking is no longer rooted in the awareness of our choices and possible consequences. So often we get caught up in group think vs. critically thinking for ourselves. Mainstream and social media only exacerbate it. Our rational faculties are seriously impaired and our decision-making turns dysfunctional. During our virtual interactive theatre presentations our diverse cast of actors, who stay in character, facilitate a “safe space” encouraging our audiences to express their reactions, thoughts and opinions about the issues raised in our stories. The audiences help the “characters” and ultimately themselves cultivate a self awareness to confront the challenges being discussed with clarity and proactivity.

THEATRE

Our style of interactive theatre makes use of set-improvisation. Our actors in collaboration with the artistic director create, rehearse and then perform our storylines during the presentation. The dialogue is always spontaneous and driven by the interaction with the audience in real time. The issues discussed in our storylines are determined with the input of our collaborating sponsors based on data concerning issues currently challenging our intended audiences. In addition to bringing our theatre to you we can also partner up to teach our style of theatre via a series of WORKSHOPS. Our goal is to have our participants explore critical thinking through set-improvisational interactive theatre. Upon choosing themes and issues of importance our participants are taught how to create a thought provoking storyline which they will present to an invited audience. The workshop experience prepares the participants to understand how theatre can be used as a tool for critical thinking, social exploration, justice and change.
